The 4x400m relay team
6/13/2017
Congrats to Angelica Bailey, Kiara Davis, Brianna French, and Isabella Bertolini on finishing 7th in the state. At the state meet they did something very special by becoming the fastest mile relay team in Macomb County History with a time of 3:57.31 breaking Utica’s record of 3:57.6 in 2014. These 4 members in the relay only ran together 4 times and the PR going into the state meet was 4:11 at the Marysville invite. They also fought the poor weather and won the county, and finished second in the regional to Troy, but beat them at States.
Sophomore Angelica Bailey Ran lead off in 4x100, 4x200, and both hurdle events most of the season. Because she is so strong in the 300 hurdles, we thought at the Marysville why not give her a shot at leading off the 4x400. At the state meet she powered through her lead off leg leg and closed the second half with a strong kick, and was the second runner to pass the baton. Senior Kiara Davis: I always thought Kiara would be a strong 400 runner, but Kiara has had an excellent career as a 200 runner for us. She has anchored our 4x200 team to three state finals appearances, and qualified individually in 2016. Kiara looked like a natural in the 4 times she ran the 4x400 this year. She Promised her that this would be the best lap of her high school career. When she handed the baton of to Bri and the time was at 2 minutes on the nose, I knew this race would be special. Freshman Brianna French had a very strong freshman campaign running the third leg all year also ran several 1:02’s in the open 400. SheRan a sub 60 split for the first time all season with a 58.8 at the State meet. Bri dominated her leg at states passing two runners on the outside of the second turn. Bri has the potential to be a great 400 and 800 runner during the next 3 years Senior Isabella Bertolini (the anchor) broke the school record in the 400m as a freshman and was a 4 time state qualifier in the 400m. Izzy ran the anchor anchor leg in 4x400 for 4 years, and was the oughest competitors I've ever seen. Izzy hws never passed in the 4x400 in the three years I've coached her.
